California Pizza Kitchen

2/13/089 update: I went to CPK 2 days ago (2/11) and had forgotten what was lacto-vegetarian and what was not. The waiter kindly showed me this big book that they keep with all the ingredient and allergen information. From this book I was able to learn the following in addition to the information I've already posted below.

  • Corn Chowder - contains chicken broth
  • Hot Fudge Sauce - contains egg whites
  • Kung Pao Sauce - contains chicken broth
  • Ice Cream - Haagen Dazs, contains eggs*
*Apple Crisp (stated to be lacto-vegetarian) comes with Haagen Dazs ice cream, so should be ordered without ice cream to be lacto-vegetarian. I have notified CPK abou this and they will update it.

Without eggs or chicken broth (or other meat-base):
  • Tortilla Soup
  • Split Pea Soup
  • Black Beans
  • Fettucini Noodles
  • Penne Rigate
  • All Pizza Dough

9/24/08 update: A comment was left below by a reader who noticed a discrepancy similar to the one reported on 8/20/08. The Grilled Vegetarian Sandwich is listed as lacto-vegetarian, which should mean there are no eggs, but the allergen chart says it contains eggs. I contacted the Guest Relations administrator and she stated this an error. The sandwich is lacto-ovo-vegetarian. There are eggs in the sun-dried tomato aioli. This should be corrected by tomorrow on their website. Great catch!

Also, the reader inquired about eggs in the pizza dough. The administrator reconfirmed that the pizza dough is without eggs.

8/20/08 update: A comment was left below by a reader who noticed a discrepancy between the vegetarian/gluten-free informational chart and allergen chart. The tortilla soup is listed as lacto-vegetarian, which should mean there are no eggs, but the allergen chart says it contains eggs. I spoke with the corporate administrator again and she reconfirmed that there are no eggs and the allergen chart needs to be corrected. She also verified that the Tostada Pizza without ranch dressing is lacto-vegetarian as well. It is lacto-ovo-vegetarian with the ranch.

From 8/8/08:

I found this wonderful chart online that indicates California Pizza Kitchen's (CPK's) vegan, lacto-ovo-, lacto-, and gluten-free options. It includes their definitions for the different types of diets as well. According to the corporate Guest Relations administrator, CPK just recently posted this, along with an allergen chart that contains information on what is eggless.

It is interesting to note that the Sedona Tortilla Soup is stated to be both lacto-ovo-vegetarian and lacto-vegetarian. I could've sworn a CPK server had once told me the soup contains chicken stock, but the corporate Guest Relations administrator confirmed that it does not have any. Their other vegetarian soup is the Dakota Smashed Pea & Barley Soup. Plus they have two lacto-vegetarian (aka vegetarian and eggless) desserts: Apple Crisp (without the ice cream) and Key Lime Pie. It is always nice when you end up learning that you have more options than you think!

Yo Sarah, cool site! Where do you find the time to get all this awesome info? Anyway, keep it up! Thanks a million.

According to that CPK allergen chart, the Sedona Tortilla soup has eggs in it; however, my boyfriend is (highly) allergic to eggs and has eaten that soup and had no allergic reaction. Not sure what to make of it- maybe that is a mistake on their chart? If there were eggs in that soup, he definitely would've known within seconds of his first bite.

Hmmm... I think you might have caught an error on their part, good catch! Like I mention in the post, the Guest Relations administrator confirmed for me that the soup is lacto-vegetarian, which means it should be without eggs as well! I will contact them and see what they say. I am also currently waiting to hear back from them on the Tostada Pizza. It's my favorite dish (I get it without the ranch and chicken), and I asked them why it wasn't listed as one of the vegetarian options. I will let you know when I get all the details.

If you look at their vege/vegan chart, they mark the Sedona soup as lacto-vegetarian so I guess there is a mistake in their allergen chart

Exactly, like I mentioned, the Guest Relations administrator confirmed the lacto-veg listing so I will verify if they made a mistake on the allergen chart when I talk to them.

Thanks for this great site. I noticed that vegetarian sandwich is listed as both Lacto as well as Lacto-Ovo. I am assuming it will be safe for Lactos but the allergen chart has egg as an allergen.

Also does the pizza crust contain egg? I have been there twice and both times was told that our pizza crust has eggs.
Not to hijack the topic but a lady at roundtable pizza also told me that the pizza crust had egg in it.

Hi Anonymous,

Thank you for your compliment! I called my contact (Guest Relations Administrator for CPK) and she reconfirmed that there are no eggs in the dough.

Regarding the sandwich, I think you found another error like our reader did on 8/13/08. I notified the administrator about the sandwich and she said she will get back to me this afternoon on what it is supposed to be after she checks with the registered dietician. I will post on it once I get the facts.

Lastly, regarding Round Table, let me look into them and get back to you. If you want, you can send me an email at sarah@goeggless.com and let me know of the exact location that told you there was eggs so I can check that out.

Thanks for your comment!

Dear Anonymous,
I just posted on Round Table Pizza today. They said no eggs in the dough and plus the cheese is microbial. Take a look at my post and let me know if you have any other questions!

I dont know if you still update this, but incase anyone is interested, CPK at multiple locations has confirmed me that all their pizza and pasta dough has eggs and their website is incorrect if it states otherwise. This was confirmed to me by CPK marina del rey and CPZ brentwood.
