You may have heard of In-N-Out's Not-So-Secret Menu, with options such as Grilled Cheese and Animal Style. This morning I learned of one more item that may be of interest to vegetarians and vegans. Known as the "Wish Burger," it is available at all locations even though it is not listed on their menu.
The Wish Burger is basically the Grilled Cheese without the cheese. The Grilled Cheese contains cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, spread, and the bun. The cheese has animal rennet, and the spread is mayonnaise-based. For a completely vegetarian and eggless option, the customer service representative recommended ordering the Wish Burger with ketchup or mustard instead of the spread. The Wish Burger would then consist of lettuce, tomato, onions, ketchup or mustard, and the bun.
You can also request the Wish Burger "animal-style," which means with grilled onions, pickles, and extra spread. The onions are grilled separately away from the meat items. Again, you would need to specify that you want ketchup or mustard instead of spread to avoid eggs.
The Wish Burger is also vegan. The buns do not have eggs or dairy.
Other vegetarian and eggless items are:
- Milk shakes (although they contain ice cream they are without egg)
- French fries (fried in 100% cottonseed oil, no other items are fried in the oil) - also vegan
