Haagen Daaz

5/19/09 update: Haagen Dazs' vanilla frozen yogurt, used in the smoothies, has egg whites. I had won a free item from Haagen-Dazs in Vegas this past weekend. The employee showed me an ingredients book kept behind the counter which showed that the vanilla frozen yogurt had egg whites.

are you kidding me? i salute the makers of this product with all my heart because they give me something that honestly improves the quality of my life immensely, lol. i'm actually positive that they could reduce their cost of making their ice cream by using inferior processes and ingredients without hurting sales. but i love that they maintain their quality ingredients. one of the reasons Haagen Daz is such a superlative, high quality ice cream is because it DOES contains eggs. it is very hard to put eggs in ice cream while making sure they are pasteurized. eggs make ice cream taste much much better and add a uniquely great texture. Along with that, very few, if any, other ice creams contain eggs these days because it is so much easier and cheaper to make ice cream without eggs; instead using some frothy (and bad for your health) stabilizing ingredients like carrageenan, locust bean gum, cellulose gum, tara root gum, etc. all those ingredients make it so ice cream no longer needs to be churned and they can just squirt a frothy gummy mix in a bucket and freeze it. if course, the bonus is that you buy it from the store half filled with air bubbles and it gives your digestive system a fun gassy, bloated, nasty, and frothy time. put inferior (all other major brands, including the expensive ones) ice cream into a vacuum chamber and extract all the air to discover how much ice cream you really have when you buy your tub (usually half; along with the fact that half of the half is textured like whipped cream mixed with dish soap. i think the the gums have a tendency to float or something? idk).

THANK YOU HAAGEN DAZ staff members for doing your thing and staying awesome! i just wish i could do something more for you all because money isn't enough for such a yummy gift of joy.
